2013-2015
At its final congress on March 28, 2013, the Revolutionary Socialist Party voted unanimously to merge with Socialist Alternative (SAlt). John was elected to the post-merger SAlt national committee. From centrally involved in running the party’s (and later the faction’s) “engine room” for decades, John would be free from day-to-day organising responsibilities to concentrate on finishing up writing the party’s history. He was to do this while battling another round of serious ill health which eventually took his life.
